    you are becoming ugly

    Sarah Sternat

    23.02. – 15.03.2024

Artist Statement: “On the slippery road back to life, I managed to pull out at least a few hairs from death.

In the exhibition YOU ARE BECOMING UGLY, I show tragically absurd objects and items that are dedicated to the confrontation with death and decay. I deal with the question of life-prolonging measures and present strategies on how we can become active ourselves in order to linger longer among the living. If there is a risk of slipping, for example, we can hold on tightly or lie down as a precaution to prevent us from falling and dying from possible consequential injuries. In my confrontation with transience, I try to give abstract, immaterial content a body. These are attempts at materialization to make the incomprehensible more accessible. The ephemeral body as a starting point for sketches of tactile bridges between space and time. The phenomenon of being able to become something or someone is examined.”
